Gretsch's first solid body electric was the Duo Jet in 1953, although technically it has a semi-solid construction with a pressed top.
Gretsch Silver Jet's sparkle plastic finish was borrowed from its drum department that first applied the finish on its drums.
Gretsch were among the first of the guitar makers to use Du Pont paints, the biggest supplier of paint to the automobile factories - to creat instruments such as the 'Cadillac green' Country Club and "Jaguar tan' Streamliner in 1954.
