POST # 548 Shawn Lane on his Power of Ten Album

On that album I really wanted to do one where I played everything. I did everything myself, all the engineering and mixing and I played all the instruments. The drums I played rather in the manner of Future Man with Bela Fleck. I'd seen them play a lot and instead of playing on the Synthaxe, I did it on the drums, on the keyboards. So I played the drums with my fingers, on the keyboard keys. But that album was recorded in a very tiny little room in a house, like a ten-foot little room. And the guitar amp was in the closet (laughs) On that album…I like the sound of doubling guitars, so on a whole lot of, maybe most or all of the record practically all the guitars is actually two performances of the same lines panned from side to side. It gives it a real rich sound, I was careful to double things really close..that was another different thing about that album from some of the rest of the ones I've done.

POST # 545 EBAY PRICE GUIDE : Brian May Red Special Guild Burns Guyton RS Customs

Beautiful copy of Brian May's Red Special from RS Customs, but would the price tag give you a sheer heart attack???
Scroll down to see how much it sold for. Here's the blurb from the seller.

You are bidding on one of the finest copies of the red special available made by RS Customs (everett wood).....The tone is rich with the adeson pickups and the playability is effortless.... The story behind this guitar is that there were two made, the one I own and second made for Brian May, but thats what I was told.... I have the certificate that states only two were made... This is a used guitar and it has been played , but played gently and it shows minor wear like scratches on the pickguard, but still an extremely nice guitar.... I own two others and can say these are awesome guitars in all aspects. Plus this is a 2007 model which is the very first run and very collectable...... This is the Special Model which cost around 4500.00 to 5000.00 new depending on top and options and you have to wait around a year to get one, so save some time and money.. Feel free to ask any questions and all sales are final... Comes with a used rough hardshell case to get it to its location.........
I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END AT ANY TIME SINCE IT IS FOR SALE LOCALLY..

POST # 544 Wayne Shorter on Meeting Lester Young

The great players listened to Lester Young. I've been checking him out since I was about fifteen. When I was in the Army I got ten days off, so I went to Canada, and he was playing at the Town Tavern. During intermission he came down to where I was standing at the bar, the place was packed, and he said to me, 'You look like you're from New York.' I had a pin-strip suit on (laughter). I was trying to get a drink at the bar and he said, 'Do you want some Cognac?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Let's go down to the wine cellar and get some real cognac!' He grabbed two big water glasses and went down there. I went back to camp and I told these people. They said, 'You were talking with Lester Young?' And then about five weeks after that he passed away.

POST # 537 EBAY PRICE GUIDE: Vintage Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face

Here's one of the all time classic fuzz pedals and original to boot! See how much it sold for at the end of the post.

Here's the blurb from the seller:

Vintage Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face
Late 60's/Early 70's Classic Hammerite Grey Original

For auction is my old Fuzz Face. It is completely original and untampered with and in good working order for a 40 year old. This is not a reissue! I have wrestled with the idea of selling it for sometime and have decided after some soul searching to part with it since I don't use it too often.

I have owned it for many years and have enjoyed having a genuine piece of Rock and Roll history. If there ever was a truly iconic guitar effect then surely the Fuzz Face is it, having come to represent ( along with Fender , Gibson , Marshall ,Vox etc) an era of fresh and innovative music due to it's connection with all those groundbreaking guitarists of the 60's.

The list of guitar pioneers who have used one of these at the heart of their sound is endless , many still do. I guess this is why the old original ones are so sought after by guitarists today. This one has a pair of Silicon BC209 transistors which gives a very gainy and textural tone, cleaning up amazingly well by rolling back the guitars volume.Another nice trick I've found with this is to max both controls then roll them back a touch to reduce the fuzz and give a clearer tone, if you need something other than all out filth.Check out the incredible playing of vintage Fuzz Face user, Phil Sayce , who uses this approach with his.

I have cherished this thing for many years and hope it finds a good home but I really do need to raise some cash somehow. I'm sure there must be someone out there who'll appreciate it. On the rare occasions these come up they seem to have some astronomical price attached or there are bits missing ~ replaced knobs, bottom plate is gone or electrics are changed.Mine is intact and unmessed with and doesn't have a silly price on it .

I put it up for auction with no reserve in the hope that both the bidder and myself get a good deal - Thank You for your interest and Good Luck Bidding !!! Also prepared to ship worldwide.

POST # 532 Steve Cropper on Why He removes his Strat's Middle Pickup

Yeah, right across the bridge. And that will tell you why I can’t play a Stratocaster. Right where I’m picking is where that middle pickup is, and those little magnets that stick up knock the pick right out of my hand. I’ve always liked the Stratocaster sound, however, so on my Strat I removed the center pickup.

POST # 529 EBAY PRICE GUIDE : Fender ProSonic Custom Shop Combo Amp 1996

A Great 'modern' Fender with a vintage look. Scroll down to see how much it sold for. Here's the blurb from the seller.

Fender ProSonic Custom Shop Combo Amp 1996
Seafoam Lizardskin Green–RARE, SN-LO685157 (GA)

All original, including tubes.

I am the original owner.

Lightly used, now a closet queen. Never repaired or modified, everything works. Very reasonable reserve.
Fender’s answer to Mesa-Boogie. This amp is the Bruce Zinky custom shop version dated January, 1996. Pots hand-soldered to PC board.
2-10" Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, footswitch, chicken head knobs, 2 channels (one with cascading gain stages), reverb,
amp cover (a little stained).
The amp also allows you to switch between: 1. Tube rectifier in Class A mode (30W); 2. Tube rectifier in Class A/B mode (50W); 3. Solid State rectifier (60W)

This amp is part of the Custom Shop Professional Tube Amp Series, better quality and build than the Hot Rod Series and production Fender amps.

This amp is versatile--check online to see the creative settings fans use—in clubs and small halls it needs little or no help from a PA, because it is very, very loud.
It delivers multiple sounds ranging from clean soft jazz to super-saturated overdrive. I once MC’d a show featuring Big Head Todd. He used two Prosonics just like this one. Clean channel has that beautiful, bell-like Fender chime and is full-sounding with a richer low end than you’d expect.
Fender says they built about 500 Seafoam Green Prosonics, probably half that many exist. Manual available online, or I will email you the pdf. I hope you have a sea-foam Strat to go with it.

I never play at the volume this amp is capable of, so it’s too much Fender for me anymore.

The eBay calculator doesn't consider packing costs, and it always displays a much lower than realistic figure. Other listings for this item put shipping around $95, which sounds about what the buyer will have to expect. Tubes will be packed in peanuts, boxed, and placed inside the amp. -Thanks for looking this over. I welcome your inquiries.

POST # 528 Albert Lee on his Fluid Technique

And I don’t know if that’s a blessing or a curse. I have a pretty fluid technique, and it can run away with me. If I do fall over or make a mistake, I’m able to take it somewhere else. It’s like going on a cross-country run: I’m able to negotiate most things that come my way, but I often think I should sit back and survey the landscape, and pick and choose more. I started to learn that playing with Eric. When I was in his band, I thought, “This guy is really milking the music for all it’s worth. What he’s doing is relatively simple, but it fits amazingly well.” Now I try to think that way when I play.
My knowledge of the fretboard came through working out Cliff Gallup solos. He was great with a tremolo bar too, so I started out using the tremolo on my first couple of guitars, but then got away from it for many years. I rediscovered it when Music Man started offering tremolos on my signature model guitars.

POST # 525 EBAY PRICE GUIDE: IBANEZ JOE SATRIANI JS90HAM. Hand signed COA. MINT!!

A mint condition Joe Satriani limited edition model from 1998 with autograph. How much would satch fans snap it up for?? Find out at the end of the post! Here's the blurb from the seller.

IBANEZ JOE SATRIANI JS90HAM. Hand signed COA. MINT!!

Hi folks,

This is an IBANEZ JS90HAM JOE SATRIANI limited edition model made in honor of the 90th anniversary of the Hoshino Gakki mother company in 1998. The full specs are at the bottom but the highlights are the versatile electronics, push-pull coil split (choose between single coil or humbuckers sound) and high pass filter, DiMarzio pickups (one PAF and one FRED), ebony fretboard (beautiful!) and of course the mystic color that is a treat to the eyes; the green/blue/purple tones that as you move the guitar, change and blend into each other, I had never seen paint like this.

Now, the guitar itself is simply in mint condition, as if you just got it from the store, even the plastic wrap is still attached to the electronics cover. How is that? it has less than 10 hrs of playing time. Seriously, it still has the original strings. I can send you more pictures upon request.

As a nice bonus, my Certificate Of Authenticity, in addition to the printed signature, comes hand signed by the Man himself. I met Joe Satriani at the back of the Houston Verizon Theather after his 2001 G3 concert (07/06/2001). The white folder that holds it is slightly bent since I had to battle the crowd to get to Joe, but the COA as the guitar are simply perfect, the signature, done with a sharpie, is clear with no ink "bleeding". I'm also including a picture that I took during the climax of the concert where you can see John Petrucci and Steve Vai playing along with Satch.

The custom case is included and to round the package is also perfect condition.

If this is the JS model you've been after, well, it think it cannot get better that this.

Good luck to all!!
